Panoramic shade issue
Is there a manual way to close the shade until I break down and rebuild the sunroof?

No not really. Remove it. Take out the glass, then from the top remove the shade. Problem solved.

If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to crank it by hand from the rear motor. Pull down the headliner a few inches from the rear by the hatch hinges and you will see the motor. Small allen wrench in the bottom of the motor. It takes a lot of turning but it will close.

Yup, this works. Just your tracks have to be you know, not broken.

Cool, that’s what I was looking for. The shade would open and close even when my tracks were messed up and front motor unplugged. Just for some reason (after my wife touched it) the shade would not move forward. I hardly use the roof. The one time I did it got stuck open. I was able to manually close it years ago and haven’t touched it since. Can’t find any good write ups on how to rebuild the tracks. I would hate to have spent the money; get it all taken apart, and not be able to get it put back together. From what I can see lots of moving parts and have to be fitted perfect for it to function correctly.

I wanted to learn how to rebuild a pano sunroof. I am not using my roof, but it does work. I found one in the junkyard and they sold me everything, glass, shades, track & headliner, for $65. I learned how to remove headliner and pano sunroof "cassette" It looked liked replacement parts cost $500+. Anyway, given the cost of the replacement parts, and the cheap plastic construction, I have lost interest in rebuilding it, although I was happy to learn how to take it out. I will probably remove the glass in my x5, remove the sunshades, replace the sagging fabric, replace the pano seal (too much win noise) and call it a day.
