Temperature (ambient/engine)

Well after a 12km trip in bumper to bumper traffic my temp never got above 97c.

I am very impressed with the Gulf version but I am just waiting for the day something goes out (thermostat, hose, radiator, loose nut behind the wheel).

It would be interesting to see what the changes really are in the Gulf version cooling system, programming wise...

+44. Impressive. I've seen very close to -44C and including wind chill far colder

+44c is just a normal temp here. I'll update ambient and engine temperatures when it gets hot +52c and above.

I am interested in what others get engine, ambient temperatures to compare...

Hottest it will get here is about 40C and our M54 will rarely if ever hit 100C ect. We have 90c thermostats and unless it's over about 30c ambient, the electric fan isn't needed even at idle.

Consider: that even though 44 is suck to us that is quite a lot cooler than 95c.

Put those into absolute scale and you get 317 vs 378 or 0.839. Back in a cooler climate where a hot day is 30c the math is 303 / 378 = 0.802

So by being in the hot climate you've only pushed the ambient from 80 to 84% of the temp of the engine.

Cooling comes from the difference however so you go from 95-44=51 to 95-30=65 or 27% better cooling in the cooler climate or 21% worse cooling in the hotter climate. Make the pump push 20% faster or the radiator have 20% more surface area and the cooling will be near identical. I wonder what is included in the gulf option. Must be something like that.

A smaller pulley on the water pump would run the pump faster and the fan faster that would be a pretty simple cooling improvement. Just a possibility.

So far so good as this seems to be my normal range although I have hit 100c after doing the slinky from 80kph to 150kph for 30 minutes or so.

Might be lucky this year and that temperatures won't get above 50c

If you mean the one showing the coolant temperature, that's on my head unit using Torque Pro live data.

But my cluster is from a 2005 4.8iS Gulf version

Yeah....I thought all 4.6/4.8is have the same cluster regardless of country.

There...always something new in my book.
