How to replace Motor and transmission mount
Can anyone help me find good DIY directions. I'm unable to find anything. Sorry If I forgot to mention, I have a 2001 X5, 3.0L v6, automatic transmission. Last edited by Xmen5; 06-15-2016 at 03:29 PM. |

Xmen5, I can't help you on this, but you should identify your year, engine and tranny for specific help. For example, I expect my manual transmission 2006 3.0L's mounts are quite different than those for an auto tranny V-8. Good luck with your search!

The transmission is actually supported by a single mount for the transfercase. It's a little involved to replace. You need to remove the transfercase cross member which will require you to disconnect the front half of the exhaust. From there you can use a special bushing press (you can rent this online from tool places that rent out specific bmw tools) out the old and in the new.

Do you know of any step by step post or video?

Hmmm. If you have to remove the font drive shaft, I wonder if it makes sense to also repack it with grease to delay the inevitable transfer case spline weakness.

Any trasfercase diy will get you half way there.
You do not need to remove the front driveshaft to replace the tcase bushing.
