Spare tire

What size spare comes with the 4.4 with staggered wheels?

The same size that every x5 comes with, 17inch.

All X5's have a 17" spare tire with the exception of the 4.6is and 4.8is - they have a donut spare (the 17" rim won't clear their rotors)

If one was to buy a full size spare...19" for a 4.4i sport or a 20" for a 4.6/4.8 would it fit?

If not, has anyone ever tried a mod to make one fit?

The problem with the 18, 19 and 20 isn't the diameter, it's the width. The floor of the spare tire well would never be able to close.

The 17,18,19 is only the height of the rim and not the width. The larger rims usually usually holds a wider tire. You can decode the tire size by doing the following. 255/50/19 would be:

Width: 255mm wide or 10.0394 inches
Sidewall: 50% of the width is the side wall so 255*.50 = 127.5mm or 5.0197 inchs
Rim Size: 19 inches across
