Have you tried resetting the steering sensor? While car is running turn steering wheel lock to lock. I went left to right, but I am guessing it doesn't matter.
I recently got my 4x4 light to go out from this. If it continues to appear, I will swap out steering sensors and code the new one.

If it's just the 4x4 sensor, it might just be the steering angle sensor. I repaired mine recently and it's been good since. Cost me $0.

Yeah, tried the steering wheel thing, didn't work. Did notice the tires were over inflated. Let some air out so they are equal. Will have the kid drive for a few days and see what happens. I don't imagine it's something too serious. Shifts fine, drives fine....just hate warning lights. Thanks.

We had the 4x4 light on for well over a year, but I finally decided to see what was going on. Took a bigger problem on my E60 to convince me it was time to buy a proper scan tool. Picked up a Foxwell NT510 so I could code in a new (used) injector on the 535 and have since 'gone to town' fixing other issues that have been nagging me.

There are quite a few threads on the 4x4 light issue. From what I gathered the 4x4 light error is usually due to problems with:
Wheel sensors Yaw sensor (under center console) Steering angle sensor Either ABS module or part of the ABS module Are you able to pull any codes with INPA or any good BMW-specific scanner?
