Faulty sending unit(s)?

Use the hidden OBC menu to watch your live tank levels. You can learn quite a lot from that. Eg if the filtered value isn't close to the instant value, usually something wrong with the sending unit.

There was a service bulletin that describes how to add pressure to the spring/wiper that's what inspired me to do the repair rather than replace.

I've been able to reliably drive down to single digits miles to empty and also when I fill the tank it's instantly full.

Since the X has be delegated to our spare/3rd car duty, it only gets a fill up every month or thereabouts and it's been drinking Costco gas for the past years or two, so that may have something to do with it? I may even treat it to a couple tanks of the good Chevron stuff to see if it helps

Nothing wrong with Costco gas. I don't run anything else. I refuse to pay top dollar for what is essentially the same gas. I've talked to delivery drivers for several gas stations. They've all told me the gas comes off the same rack for every gas station in the area.

Not saying there's anything wrong with Costco gas...I wouldn't be using it if it was bad. Just saying I like the Chevron and Shell stuffs more.

On a side note - I knew someone who inspects gas station fuel storage tanks for a living...he will only fill up at Chevron.

Just providing an update. I have added Techron Fuel System cleaner and filled up with Chevron 91 twice. Ran a couple more tanks after that. Everything seems normal after the 1st treatment - fingers cross.

Oh...live level on Test6 seems normal too.

It's a known issue that the wiper pressure can be too low. Cleaning agent can definitely fix that. Run test 21 reset then if, after you fill a tank you don't get:

1) 1/1 full gauge and
2) 60 miles of driving before gauge moves,

Then be suspicious and follow up.

Thanks for all the info you've provided...very helpful in understanding all the tests and how our tanks behave
