Code out TPMS

Has anyone on the forum successfully managed to code out the TPMS system on their Pre LCI e53 X5?

I have an ‘03 (without Nav) looking to code out the TPMS system.

I think the 2001-2006 X5 TPMS runs on speed sensors, measuring differences in the rotation of the wheels.

More modern cars use actual sensors in the valve stem.

So the 2001-2006 X5 is not that bad, when the light is ON, there is low pressure somewhere, rarely false alarm in my experience...

I think the pre LCI ones use physical TPMS sensors in the wheels. The LCI 04+ use the ABS sensors.

Agreed. I trust mine too as it triggers the light when one of the wheels is off by .5 psi. The only hustle is you won't know which wheel or if one or more and so you'd have to check all of them.

Thanks for weighing in, I understand that you’re coning from a position of wanting to help. Please understand that (based on the vehicles in your signatures) you both drive LCI e53’s. As I mentioned previously, the LCI models (build dates from around 03/04 2004 onwards) use the ABS sensors as you both mention. The older e53’s pre LCI use a physical TPMS. My e53 is pre LCI, I would be really happy if you guys were right it would make my life easier and I’d save some money and hassle.

Really what I’m looking for is input from a member who has been able to use INPA or NCS to code out the TPMS system on the e53 as has been done on other BMW e code platforms.

Does the e53 use the tpms system for any dsc related functions? If not, could you not just remove the bulb from the cluster rather than coding?

Just a thought. I like the tpms system personally, but to each their own.

You might be on to something there with taking out the bulb! Might look into if it’s easily doable. I agree with you I like the TPMS system too but this is a project car I picked up for $850, would prefer to avoid throwing $200 worth of TPMS sensors at the winter wheel set up for it.

On the issue of removing bulb...

On my Volvo, there was a service light (reminder to bring car in for service) that was annoying, I used a small piece of black electrical tape, maybe around 1/2" x 1/2" and cover the light.

You won't even notice the black electrical tape is there.
