LoL.
You've never tried one if these have you.?

First off, there is a small ridge around the magnetic mount so the phone cannot slip.
Second, the damn things are almost too strong.
If you stick one of the discs in the magnet without having it stuck to a phone, good luck getting it off

I use this mount in my rock Crawler also, phone doesn't budge.

The magnet style with the ball and ring are pretty good, and the style with the rectangular plate you stick to phone also ok if you actually stick it to the outside of your phone case but suck if you try to just put inside your phone case.

since I'm upgrading to the world of bluetooth, I figured I'd have my phone in a location, other than my pocket, that will be decent to have to hear me scream OK GOOGLE now... and so I bought a few magnetic mounts and I believe my winner and location are stellar... I bought the WIZgear (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and man is it strong. I do not think it will fall and I'm placing it on the overhead console, between the ultrasonic slits. I played with the bar and magnetic discs/sheets it comes with and I used the largest one between my Pixel 3 and its rubber case and it seemed to hold extremely well as I wAS GIGGLING IT hard TO SIMULATE A POTHOLE OR nasty bump. It held amazingly!!!!
I'm clamping it in place for a minimum 12 hrs, based on reviews I've read of many different kinds of magnetic holders that are stuck to car Dash's/plastic panels.

Follow up with phone mounted when done. It looks like a great idea.

I'm planning to put a quad lock mount on the top of my gear shift

So far, I'm super impressed. With the extremely thin metal sheet just sitting between my phone and rubber Case, it hold extremely!!!!! Well. It also is about the width of my pixel 3 so it covers a lot of the metal plate for max holding power. It also allows me to place the phone very close to the overhead console so it's not hanging far but very easy access to grab and go. I do NOT need to use my phone screen for.navigation or reading texts, so if you need to look at the screen then this is 100% NOT for you. But for us who just need it for voice prompts and to maybe accept incoming calls it's perfectly placed.

What I didn't check is the operation of the ultrasonic sensors when vehicle is locked. I hope it doesn't affect this operation. And in case some are wondering why I didn't place it vertical in between the slits, it's because of the curvature... It wouldn't stick well enough.

It's great thinking outside the box. You don't need to see the screen so you made the call to solve it your way. Kudos!
