Weird Sound

In all 3 suspension levels, when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left there is a loud bang / pop. What is making the noise?

You know what? Mine does that too! Like when im backing out of a driveway and have wheel cranked hard either side, makes a 'clunk' both sides do it depending on which way the wheel is turned. Also if im moving forward into a driveways slowly. CLUNK. I figuered its just a part of the air suspension? hmmm.....anyone else?

I don't have the air suspension and mine does it once in a while also...backing out of my garage with the wheel fully turned. This starts to sound like one of those weird traits that our X have.

I have a 2004 and my X5 has been doing the same exact thing since new. Its a 2004. How many others does this affect and what year X5 do you guys have. I have been to the dealer several times since i bought it for this reason and every time i go they say they cant replicate the noise and that it is fine. Thats bullshit because it does it to me every time i back out of the garage and turn the wheel also when i parallel park. I think all 2004 X5s ahve this problem some worse than others and BMW is not admiting it. So why dont we try to get together and do something about it. I am afraid if something gives way at speen like on the highway we will be in trouble. Its got to be the steering or suspension.

Mine is also a 2004, but it doesn't do it all the time...only about once per month. Because it's so intermittent, I know what the dealer will say if I take it in...so I hadn't bother trying to get it diagnose.
