New battery: 20% off at batteries plus.

Wife needs a new battery. I usually buy at Sam’s Club (saved $70 on mine), but the non AGM for 3.0 (94R I think) is $147 Sam’s Club and normally $165 at batteries plus which is 132 before tax.

Anyhow I thought I'd share for anybody in the states that needs a new battery.

$172 for the AGM. That's about the same price as Sam's Club but don't need to be a member.

It must be winter time! The second highest battery selling time of the year. Believe it or not, summer is the highest time for battery sales. Get them tested now on those daily drivers as it will beat finding out one cold and frosty morning the hard way....

Not in Wisconsin :-)

Overall it makes sense though. People go on long trips in summer and would rather replace an old battery before they go and at least half the country doesn’t have to deal with below zero (F) starts.

Down south the heat boils them
Up north the winters freeze them
Either way batteries croak all the time especially the marginal ones that get exposed to extreme temps.
Cold temps require high Amp draw to spin cold parts into action. The ones to watch are the people who turn on their lights, select their blue tooth song, turn on the wipers, heat warmers, then start the car. Gee, a few amps more will not effect anything will it?

Just got a new one for my X yesterday - a DIN88ZLMF - was twice the $ you folks are quoting and that was half what the RRP is...!

An AGM is near $800 down here...

You can get the Bosch H8 AGM for similar price - I love how quickly it fires up the little 3.0.

Just an FYI...I'd recommend the 49/H8 battery size versus the slightly lower spec 94R/H7 battery size. The H8 battery class size has an amp hour rating that is usually between 90AH - 94AH (depending on battery manufacturer)...where as the H7 battery class size runs between 80AH - 84AH (again, depending on battery manufacturer).

But if the 94R/H7 battery is working for you...no problem...it not like its life or death.

You can see what the specs are in the East Penn chart below. Other battery manufacturers specs will be similar/close or the same:

  • CCA (cold cranking amps)
  • RC (residual capacity)
  • AH (amp hour)
  • CA (cranking amps

AND DON'T FORGET TO VENT THE BATTERY TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR!!
