What if I take out the aftermarket radio and put in a factory one ?

04 X5 won't start. Code light comes on
That’s what I figured might be needed to access the computer. Odds are the radio is still installed. The head unit is just a remote control.

Ok here's what happened...Disconnected battery ..Waited about ten mins..Reconnected, turned key to position one for ten mins..Did not see a countdown..Tried starting it, nothing..
Pulled fuse 43..Car started..No instrumentation panel but got it home.. Next step will be go to a different mechanic..Someone I know...Will keep everyone posted.. Thank you for all the replies and knowledge...Would not know about fuse 43 if I didn't go on this forum... |

I'm guessing MID is the factory radio ? Ok either way I'm going to a friends brothers shop in my neighborhood this week and explain to him the situation...
The radio in there now is an alpine with a DVD screen and it picks up so many stations, its pretty pricey .....I'm not a big radio guy so if its suggested to return to stock I will... Will be in touch ...Thnx... |

The MID is the acronym for the factory radio control unit. The radio is either in the console or in the trunk or something I forgot. Since the actual radio is not where the remote is most people won’t remove when installing an aftermarket radio. Very good chance you could even snake the cable out somewhere you could connect the MiD for programming but likely the aftermarket radio install they cut the harness.
Some reconnaissance is needed to know.
