Thank you!

From the cats back, larger diameter piping, x-pipe, single muffler dual in, dual out

Looks like no resonators?

As mentioned cutouts should be on both exhaust pipes as close to downstream from the cats as possible. Even if only better sound is your objective they should be installed as close to equal length from where the exhaust pipes connect to the exhaust manifolds.

I have no experience with the vacuum operated cutouts but I spoke with a shop that installs them frequently. They recommended to only buy QTP as it was the only brand they have had no problems. I installed QTP oval electric cutouts. They can be opened as much or as little as you like and controlled by a switch that you can locate wherever you like. If you only go with one father back in the exhaust system, you will lose much of the performance benefit of reduced back pressure.

I have had no problem with the QTP cutouts.

Correct, there are no resonators. I’ve only used a resonator on one of my custom cars, a 1988 Honda Civic Hatchback. I had a full race setup, and I did not want to receive attention.

On my E53, there is little to no drone with the windows down, and none with the windows up. Like Clockwork said, E53’s M54 is quiet, and I like to be able to hear my engine. It’s not super loud, but it’s definitely not quiet.

My whole issue with getting two is that it doubles the price and I’m on a tight budget. Would it still sound good if I put it on the very beginning of the combined single pipe?

If it is a E53 with a M54 and a stock exhaust, there is no single pipe. Also as mentioned, there will be performance loss if exhaust is leaked in an unbalanced manner.

Well, looks like it’s back to the all consuming black hole of money that is modding a car. Do any of you guys know about what to do for the sensors though?

I like it. Any intake mods or tuning to go with it?

Have no idea what it would sound like if you could find a way to install only one. You could install a modified X pipe and then weld the cutout where the X lines intersect. Or just weld in exhaust piping between the two sides and install the cutout in the center of the pipe. The HP/TQ should improve very slightly with only one but installing only one eliminates only half the back pressure you would benefit from if you did two.

If you can find a place to install only one go with the largest diameter that can be welded on. Seems your main goal is sound. If that is the case I would just remove the mufflers or resonators- much cheaper.
