Valley pan needs changing 04 X5

Its one thing after another lately...Noticed a small puddle of antifreeze a few days in a row...

Had it checked out and its the valley pan..Have a few guys at work that are really good mechanics on the side...Will approach them for the job....

Usually though how much would a reputable shop charge for this ? I know top of the motor needs to come off..

I am in NY...

I just did this on my 2003 X5 4.4. The intake manifold comes off, and in the process I replaced the water pump being proactive. Also replaced the valve cover gaskets as I found oil in the spark plug wells. It was straightforward but a pretty big job. I probably spent 16hrs total but a pro who did it before could be much faster. My one surprise was a small vacuum line under the manifold. It’s only a 1/8 plastic fitting which I broke taking the manifold off. I ended up replacing with a brass hose barb and epoxy. Putting it all back under the manifold required some Houdini maneuvers. Just a caution since I did not find that shown in any Utube or service manuals. Btw, I used a URO replacement pan with an improved gasket design. Cost $65.

BMW gaskets and hoses suck, period...The engineering in there cars are not worth the cost...

65 dollar gasket and the job is around 1,000-1,500 bucks....Its a joke...Am I handy? Yes...Would I do this job? Yes but not by myself...

Now, my back hatch won't open , my hood latch snapped and my left frint grill broke off.....

Yes the ultimate driving machine.....I had a 2001 Nissan maxima that I bought with 78,000 miles years ago....Put 100K on it..Besides reg maint. Oil, brakes, plugs, only thing I had to change was a starter..

These X5's suck

Honestly, I agree. I have had many other more reliable high mileage vehicles (Jeep, Chevy, Eagle, all 200k+ miles). But I have found you won’t find any sympathy on this forum of BMW lovers. Cool cars, I question some of the engineering and manufacture, but arguably high cost of ownership, at least on the X5 of that vintage.
