Hi Thom! Where in NJ are you? (Nevermind, just saw Belle Mead) I have an '04 X5 and I added the factory Aux in and factory satellite radio. The units are still available from BMW for about $250.00 and it comes with 1 or 3 months service. (not sure which). If you want any more info about it, just let me know.
Al. This is what it looks like on the MID when you select it using the "Mode" button. Then it just displays the channel of your choice. IMG_1532 by Al, on Flickr

Al, thanks so much for quick reply. Based on your comment I did so more research and found that (if correct), I need P/N 65120439436 receiver and P/N 84110141976 installation hardware kit, along with an antenna. Unfortunately when I went into back of car to confirm 3 pin and 6 pin connectors for the satellite radio, found that they were in use for my DSP adapter that is part of my BMW Duo media bridge. So, unless I can daisy chain those two connectors, my only option will be to go with an Audivox solution. Maybe the best way to go is to just to play satellite radio on my iPhone through the bridge.

OK. another way would be to get the module, (no need for the hardware kit) Since your car is an '05 it should already have a factory telephone bluetooth unit in it. What do you use the media bridge for? One reason I prefer an actual Satellite unit to using streaming on the phone are service dead spots. with satellite you always have a signal unless you're underground or in a heavily wooded area.

I use the media bridge for Google maps, Pandora, and iTunes. How do you hook up the satellite module to Bluetooth unit?

you could use an external Sat Radio player and buy a "goose Neck" stand (that connects to front left bolt of passenger seat, as a base) and BMW Aux in connection cable (that connects to back of MID) and a cable that turns the glovebox flashlight port into a switched power cigarette lighter connection). and then you're hard wired into stereo as opposed to a bluetooth connection too.
You need to run the antenna wire, run the Sat Radio cigarette lighter power wire to cig lighter (OR buy the glovebox flashlight power connection to cig lighter conversion adapter and this is a powered connection so when vehicle is off, so is sat radio) and then Aux cable from external sat radio to new BMW Aux cab connection. All this can be done in passenger footwell EASILY and no cables need to be run out back of vehicle and all wiring hidden behind panels. I've done it all and love it because the screen on the Sat Radio external player is much bigger than what the factory MID can display. Buy a new/used external Sat Radio player and then these extra bits to do it all neat as its less than a SXM BMW module in trunk I love having my sat rad connected like this. I didn't even know I could buy the BMW parts to get Sat Radio working... but then again it would cost a FORTUNE compared to what i bought to install a Sat Radio

You don't. The factory BT unit is only for phone calls.

It's surpring how often that question comes up.
Totally! Back in the day I was streaming on my Motorola razer flip. Only held 2/3rds of a whole song though. ![]() Had apple car play too for my Ipod classic. ....You were lucky if BMW gave you an aux cord. People went nuts for that.
