4.8is Instrument Cluster *Help*

Outpost,

I recently installed the Avin Avant 4 system. Its alright, but thats a different story.

The Avant 4, as we know, is plug and play. The only wire that was tapped into was the reverse wire for the backup camera. However, since installing the unit my instrument cluster lights are not working. They illuminate at night with the headlights on and the dimmer works, it is the tachometer light that increases with the engine becoming warmer that is not working as well as the bottom pixel screen and the low fuel light. The bottom pixel screen is extremely faint and can hardly be read at all. Both smaller light panels on either side of the large screen work ie, parking brake light.
The aftermarket amp which is installed was also rewired and the battery disconnected but this should not have affected the cluster. Also, the left side of the headlight Halo is not working now.
Could all of this be related, or just freak weird timing?
Mainly concerned about the instrument cluster not lighting.

An insight would be great.

First thing I would do is disconnect all the after market stuff then recheck.

Disconnect the iBus adapter from the 3 pin side of the connector so it has no effect on the iBus and see if the problem remains. Also the reverse light trigger wire as well and see if there are any changes. I know the guys with the 4.6 and 4.8 X5's have not had this issue so I would assume it is either a wiring or programming issue

And if needed check all 3 fuses for instrument cluster.

I pulled all 3 fuses (1,43,45) and checked them. Tried the trick of turning the power on with them pulled and the putting them back and turning on again. No luck.

It has to be something associated with the head unit or wiring. Can't just be a coincidence. I will keep checking it out.

Insight is appreciated, thanks everyone

I actually forgot that iBus usb adapter when installing and had to go back in to connect the adapter. The problem with the cluster existed before the ibus adapter was installed so that probably rules out that variable.

I doubt that the cluster went bad.... so strange though.

Try disconnecting everything in the rear related to the Avin harness. Without the iBus adapter in the system and the problem existed, then you are right, not the iBus interference. Check that reverse cam wiring.

Check Can wires on IKE.

Yellow/Black and Yellow/Brown.

I just hope you didn't wire anything while ignition is on and/or reversed.

hope this helps

Took Avant 4 unit and put back in the OEM unit to see if that would activate anything.... it did not.
Took the car to a trusted audio specialist and they could not find anything wrong...

Safe to assume that during the install process something could have shorted and fried something?
Just so weird that aside from the cluster acting up, the one halo went out and the other is extremely dim.
Now I am considering buying a cluster off Ebay and going that route. I ordered some weislicht halo bulbs as I was planning to use the iBus app to run them as DRL's so I will put those in and see if they magically work.
Fingers crossed.
