Looks like I was mistaken, it can be removed without taking out the console as mentioned by others. Here's a vid I just made to illustrate. Hopefully it helps.

No need to remove the folding door. I installed a double USB port in my ashtray. Extended the two USB ports for the AVIN Avant 4 I installed to that location. Modified the metal piece next to the lighter socket.

I wanted permanent USB power also, so I installed a two port USB in the center console. There's just enough room between the armrest cover and box for a cable to be fed out with the cover closed. I'll post some photos tomorrow.

Well I definitely just added "make engine bay sparkle" after seeing the first post, I think the last time mine was that clean was when it left the factory

The few things on my list:
  • Replace stereo with Xtrons unit I ordered
  • Repair side mirrors not closing
  • Figure out why my rear window washer isn't working
  • Replace connector on leaking (front left) air suspension

Should be enough for quite a few days, as I still have loads of other things to do, and I'm sure something new will pop-up along the way

The non-working rear window washer has been on my list for a long time. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting and it will get fluid to the rear window, so it's not clogged. Come to find out the rear wiper motor has a chip on it that is part of controlling the rear window washer pump. It burns out. The fix is to replace the rear window wiper motor. I've had more pressing needs and have had other things to spend the $150 for a new motor on.

Simplest way to confirm it's not the pump or a clogged line is to swap the plug from the front washer pump to the rear and activate the front washer on the steering column. If it works and you get fluid at the rear window, you know your pump is good and the line isn't clogged. That leaves the wiper motor chip.

Non X5 work... but you guys are the ones I share with so deal with it.

E61 has the storage package and was missing trim pieces and the shocks that hold up the compartment lids. Well no more with "overnight parts from Latvia." They were 50% cheaper than domestically.

It also got good used front door seals off Ebay. New was dumb, like $160 each. Got them both for $50. One of the PO's must have entered/exited the car like a wolverine. Before:
