Where is the module that controls the automatic opening and closing by the key

I had a new key made because my old one was not able to activate the locks! The locksmith stated that the keys are programmed but a module that controls the locking is not working! He also stated the interior locking button worked and locked all the doors!
Anyone have any suggestions or can tell me what to look for?

I'm a bit lost what the situation is now. The remote has to be initialised with the remote itself. Was that sequence tried properly?

I guess? The locksmith said he tried it when he cut the new key and matched it to the vehicle! If you mean Turning on the ignition to first key turn then immediately holding the lock button on the Key and rapidly pressing the open button three times - Yes I tried that without any luck!

That's what I meant with initialisation but it's the opposite. Keep "open" button pressed and press "lock" button 3 times.

What year is the vehicle? Does the key work to start it?

All E53's have the same remote control system and key immobiliser transponder chip has nothing to do with remote control. If you wanted you could initialise any E53 key to your vehicle as a working remote (if it's for the same continent and has the correct frequecy.)

The FZV (central locking) feature of the remote key is controlled by the GM III (general module)...as well as the DWA (Anti-theft alarm siren system). The EWS (immobilizing feature) operates on a different 125 KHz RF (radio frequency) and communicates with different modules and is also self powered through induction so it doesnít require the battery inside the remote key to operate like FZV & DWA.

Make sure that your new remote was designed to communicate over the 315 MHz radio frequency. If you have the European key...it operates on the 433 MHz RF and wonít communicate with your GM III.

The remote sends a 315 MHz (in North America) RF signal to an antenna embedded in the rear windshield...which then goes to amps in the C pillars...which then sends the signal to the GM where commands are sent to central locking and the anti-theft alarm system to lock/unlock and arm/disarm. See the instructions below on how to correctly program your old remote or new remotes to lock/unlock & arm/disarm the vehicle.

There are also specific things that must be done to initialize a remote...if those things arenít followed exactly...the programming will fail. Some things to make sure to do are:
  • Make sure ALL doors are closed
  • Make sure All doors are unlocked
  • Turn key to KL R position (1st ignition position)
  • All remotes must be programmed in the same session...any remote not programmed in the last session will not have the current rolling code table info assigned by the GM

{You can see the GM III controls the FZV & DWA systems in the communication bus topological chart below}
