I just weighed in with my $0.02. If this car sells for less than 16k I will be highly disappointed.

Def not giving it away and don't need to sell. I think AutoTrader would also find all the buyers that are on BaT.

I agree. That one scares me a little though in buying it sight unseen. With 39k miles it makes no sense that several trim items are beat up. It appears the front passenger door panel arm rest leather is separating. Could be the pic quality but I don't think the seller, a dealer by the way, responded to that concern.

I think I'd want to see that one in person first. Plus them chrome wheels gotta go! That might add $600-$800 to have them refinished?!?!

I am selling on there and I noticed that if they deny your car, they won't explain why. Email them back and ask. Typically it's a reserve. They take a lot of stuff at no reserve.
Part of me wants to list my 5 speed x5 on there to see what happens.

-Door panel Armrest separation is an age issue. The glue used is crap. Give it time they will separate. The same glue that holds stuff on the E53's is what's used on the E39, and on those cars the door panel pockets will straight up fall off unless you re-glue them.
No fault of the owner.

-Chrome wheels, well that's personal preference. You want to change the finish, not need.

-Cupholder tray is indeed a wear item. But let's be honest, the coating used there and on the door handles is a joke in terms of durability.

Car look solid if you ask me. If it ain't 95k (adjusted) there's room for tid bits, just not overahauls.

Armrest is 100% separated. No question. Photo shows it clearly. But it's a fairly easy fix. That truck is 16 years old, doesn't surprise me, even with the low mileage. Certainly wouldn't dissuade me from a 40k mile imola 4.8is if I were in the market. And at $11k currently it might be a bargain. I paid $15k for mine with 90k (though it was 5 years ago and had Dinan gear on it) miles and far worse paint than that one.

I'd certainly rather buy a good mechanical vehicle with good body in need of a few trim items rather than the other way around. Resonator being removed by one of the previous owners is interesting. But no maintenance history, other than battery and brake fluid, worries me. Sold by a dealer worries me.

^Says the guy who bought his imola sight unseen from a Buick dealership who took it in on trade. Then drove it home from California with no PPI. If it's the right truck for the right buyer... how does the saying go? "There is an ass for every seat."

No financial interest here, but just thought I'd mention that the car is being sold by an indy BMW shop/dealership in St. Louis, Bimmers R Us. I've had a couple of good dealings with them (though some of their online feedack is a little mixed ... but then, who's isn't these days?)

If I were interested in this car, I 'd give them a ring and talk to them directly.

Best regards,

Chris

Sold for $26750!

That should make some 4.8iS owners pretty happy. Doesn't really apply to the humble 3.0 E53s I have (thought they both have lower mileage), but nice to see nonetheless. :-)

And the buyer has to pay a 5% fee so they paid $28,087. And if they aren't local you also have to consider transportation, travel etc. If I was paying that for an '04 I no way in hell would buy that sight unseen. I hope the buyer likes the chrome wheels and is OK with several trim items that are beat up. You really have to see paint up close to gauge it's condition. I don't believe a paint gauge was used to prove original paint. Maybe the buyer doesn't care. Now my question is after seeing that sell for basically 28,087, what's a 2 years newer '06 4.8 with 9800 miles in collector grade condition worth?

Holy crap! That's really nice E39 M5 money! Time to start buying and hoarding decent condition 4.8's.

Only one way to find out... but you'd probably have to lose the reserve. They really prefer no res auctions on almost everything.
