I'm just getting into modding my X5. I got an XTRONS android head unit to replace my base radio (no nav or DSP). I connected the main quadlock harness to test the android, and everything was working fine. After playing around with the balance and fader I noticed my rear right speaker wasn't working. I left the project on hold for a few days and decided to put the factory CD player and MID back in today to test the RR speaker. For some reason after reinstalling everything the MID won't turn on. I checked the quadlock connector to the CD player and the MID connector. Also checked fuses 72 and 73 in the hatch. The tel light on the MID randomly flickered yellow and red at one point, but no sign of life on the screen. The CD changer seems to work as when I hit eject I can hear it. Any idea what else I can try? Thanks Len |

Update: Pulled fuses 75 and 5 as well and made sure all 4 were out before putting them back, still nothing. Did some more research and found another Xoutpost thread with a similar problem and the solution worked (can't find the thread anymore). It turns out the white connector going to the MID gets loose over time and from disconnecting it. What I did was use 2 small screwdrivers to pry the black inner connector out of the white locking connector (the white connector cracked in the process). Once that was out I made sure to plug the black connector in the right way (the white piece only went in one way but now it's gone) and everything is working good.
Also, the line of pixels that went out on my MID came back to life. My speakers all work fine, so I guess I need to get a replacement Android HU. I'll add pics of the connector when I take everything back out for a 2nd try with the android. |

Can't figure out how to change the thread title, but issue is solved. Also may be a solution to pixels going out on MID.

Quote:
I wish simply removing connectors/power from a MID would fix dead pixels - but no such luck for me. I had a few columns of pixels that would go on and off for a few years - first zero columns missing, then a few, then less, then more, but progressively getting worse with time. In the end I replaced the LCD ribbon - all fixed.
