The stock exhaust tips on my X5 3.0 have to go

I'm not sure how others here like them but I really think they are truly ugly.
I've used Vibrant Performance brand quite a few times and they really make good quality product for fair price.
These run about $100 for pair depending where you get it.
I did some measuring and they will fit. I'll have to cut them at point where they merge from single into dual path then cut the stock tips at point where they are welded to mufflers.
That way I have good surface to weld new tips. It won't be a simple project as I have to make sure they are aligned correctly when installed.
But, I've done similar project on my 4.6is in past and I was pleased with results.

I like the look of the aftermarket tips on the black X but, since you have the shadowline trim on the white X, why not go for the shadowline exhaust tips. I have them on my X and I think they look great on the Alpine white.

Just a thought...

Truck is looking fantastic, BTW.

Hmmm, when you say shadowline tips, you mean the stock black ones from 4.4?
Post the pictures of yours if you don't mind so I can get an idea.
Thanks.

I went with Yonaka dual walled stainless steel 3.5" tips welded to the mufflers on my 3.0. $100 for the pair of tips. Very happy with the look.

Very nice!
I prefer slanted / cut look but it basically comes down to individual taste.
I'm really starting to consider painting my gloss black because of contrast as Timmy mentioned.
I could look for some other tips but having the experience with excellent Vibrant brand quality, I just may find high quality high temp spray paint and properly rough up the surface of tips for paint adhesion.
I may install them first as I initially planned and then see how I like them.
Thanks for the pics!

I tried painting my tips with gloss black engine paint. It didn't hold up. The tips get too hot. I can't find any header paint that is gloss. That's the only paint I think will take the heat. If there's a gloss, high heat, spray paint I'd love to find it.

bumping an old thread but for reference was this the part number for your pair of tips? And did you require any other modifications other than having it welded on? I have the same car

Yeah. I am talking about the factory tips on the 4.4.

I forgot to mention that I also really like these cheap but good quality BMW genuine license plate frames. This one was only $25 (from my favorite online sales BMW dealer) and it goes well in contrast to white and removed X5 badge.
I pretty much debadge all of my BMW's, at least in rear as I feel the back looks cleaner and more symmetrical (basically, Im OCD, lol).
Obviously, I save the badges and reinstall them correctly when selling the car and if buyer prefers it.

Make sure to order the 4.8 bezels for the exhaust tip cutouts on your bumper trim. Makes for a much cleaner installation.

I'm really liking the lift in your garage.
