I have this model:
https://xtrons.com/bmw-x5-e53-androi...-rom-ib9953bpl

I vastly prefer its capabilities to stock. Offline maps are super easy with Google, you just select an area and download it. It expires after a period of time, because construction happens so often, but updating the downloaded maps is easy as well. I'm not fond of connecting the unit to my phone for internet, but there are models with built in 4G as well, which I am considering an upgrade to.

Things that might make you want to keep your old stock system would be television usage (which you can also make happen with these Android units), enjoying the nostalgia of the 8 color navigation from the early 2000s, radio usage (something I don't do at all since I'm in Kuwait and don't understand Arabic. You can integrate your antenna system and such with the Android systems, I just never bothered.), or some other oddity like owning an old ass Nokia keypad phone that fits in the center console.

I see no value in keeping a car stock that has no value in it to others, but some do. I love this Android system and the rest of the audio I replaced the BMW antiquities with.

How is your experience with the GPS connection? Does it stay constantly connected? How long does it take to start up?

I haven't had any issues that made me notice. It works as well as my smartphone. I mounted mine inside the dash on top of some metal bracing. My first one, I ran up to the dash through the front midrange hole and had the damn thing melt in the Kuwait sun. It still works, just looks like a blob now.

Hmm okay I need to take apart mine over the weekend, seems like there is some issue. Yesterday I timed it and it took over 15 minutes before I got a GSP signal. But afterwards, when the car was stopped for just a few minutes, it popped up within a minute.

Wow, that does sound bad. By the time mine boots and I open an app neeeding GPS, it seems to be working fine.

I have this same unit, but not branded as Xtrons but different, can't remember... It the 4GB version and works great. It has been in the car for 10 months now and I can't fault it! Fit's like a glove and with the IBUSS app and USB it shows the same information as the stock nav, with extra coding options! Love it!

Did the IBUSS integrate into the existing NAV or are you using an app? This is my one complaint so far. The NAV is just a PITA without using 4G.

Car looks great with the new wheels, Spook!

I have my GPS boot on start up and it does so fast enough. I have less RAM than the newest HU's. It keeps loading continually as I drive so no problems there. I need to get a SIM card as updating my local area is just annoying and I use it to find my clients daily.

I am waiting on my Resler integration. Can't wait to get that hooked up! How was getting it installed on the HD? Looks easy enough.

Can anyone comment on the DAB install? I am just trying to save a few bucks by not ordering the additional 6m antenna if it works with out it. Plus, I don't want to have to take the interior out again. Holy hell. That was a chore!

Can you please post some photos? I would like to see it fits in the car.
