Toyo Proxes S/T 285/50/18??

Hi, I have stock 18 inch sport wheels with 255/55/18 tire size.. I was wondering could I put on 285/50/18.. Have anyone tried putting wider tires on their stock wheels? I ask this because I know people with E46 M3s put on wider tires on their stock wheels, like stock size is 255/40/18 and to 275/35/18???

285 is too wide for stock 18x8.5 rims. You need 18 x9.5.

If you're gonna get wider tires I suggest you go with staggered 19" or 20" OEM setup.

good question..

My local dealer used to sell Toyo's and I went with the 255/55/18 Proxy as a replacement for the factory Michelin's. The tire pro said to the 285's were too wide and would roll on the rim.

After reviewing the Toyo website It appears the 285 are very close to the 255 specs.

I also noticed severe front shoulder wear with the Proxies after 15K miles. Might check into tire rotation. Overall a great tire for the money.

Good luck Eric in AZ
