Not sure how the DME would respond to that but you could call Active Auto Werks, they’re good guys and should give it to you straight.

May I ask why delete the after car O2s? Just curious.

Well, here is the story, I picked up a 02 e53 3.0 for $600. Yes $600. Needed ignition key tumbler, right front door panel and outside door handle and a serious cleaning. The exhaust bung for the after cat o2 blew out and since they are a pain in the crack to deal with, I was just going to delete them and patch the hole. There were other small issues, usual vacuum leaks, tune-up and oil change but that was about it till yesterday. That's when I found out the head gasket was blown. Anyway, want to get the after cats turned off while I'm replacing the head gasket and getting the head redone.

Sounds like a steal actually, if it runs and drives, that’s awesome. In regard to the O2 bung, the exhaust is stainless steel, you should be able to have any local exhaust shop weld a plate and bung on for id guess around $100, that will be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than coding them out, for sure

Unless you can find an e53 post cat simulator it will be much harder to code out than just fix. Unless you also need to replace the cats.

Google BMW eu2 tune for m54. It's free! You just need an obd2/inpa cable (about $15 on ebay) and inpa/winkfp which can be downloaded on various forums.

This will eliminate the post cat sensors from the tune and will allow your x to operate properly without therm. A lot of folks that remove their cats and delete the secondary o2 sensors complain of exhaust stink. The engine runs pig rich if you remove the secondary o2 sensors without properly tuning them out. The eu2 tune is the factory tune for BMWs spec'd without cats in other markets.

I have done the EU2 tune on my '03 530i with same engine. I did it because my car has 400k miles and I was getting cat inefficiency codes.

Car runs well with EU2 tune, at least as good as before. Not sure it's better.

I think I will pass emissions, but am not sure. My sticker is not due until Feb '21.
In my state, pre-'04 cars do not need "readiness" monitors to be on.

I have lost the check engine (SES) light..It does not go on even when I turn the key on.

I just check for codes every couple of weeks or so.

Thoughts-
If you are going to the trouble of patching the bung, it shouldn't be much more work to repair the bung.

Also if you do flash to the EU2 tune and don't like it, you can flash back.

I'm running it on my '01 5mt x5. Everything effduration said applies to the x5 as well. One other thing about the eu2 tune is that it does away with the secondary air pump as well. You can leave it in; it just won't be activated anymore.

That's one thing I really like about the eu2 tune - it really simplifies things and eliminates several common trouble areas that throw hard to diagnose codes.

OBD emissions issue after EU2? And what is the process? With many e53 at 19-20 yr age, this could quickly become Ve EU popular
