IBUS App / Android HU Battery Drain?

Hi,

I’ve had my XTRONS android HU with the IBUS app for a few months now but haven’t driven the car that much. Walked out to grab something a few days ago but the car was dead. The battery showed 9v when I started charging it. I assumed it was just because of the car sitting but it died again 2 days later. I went into the cluster test menu and test 9 showed a slightly different battery voltage than my HU so not sure what’s going on there. Anyway I went into the IBUS app and just reset my configuration to factory. Before unlocking the car I noticed the little park indicator was still on- I think I read on another thread that it means the car didn’t go into “sleep” mode? I had comfortblink, euro parking lights (only angel eyes), and angel eye DRLs enabled. IIRC that’s it. So far after the reset the battery has been fine. Any ideas?

Also one more thing to note: Once I put the car into second position just for a few seconds to roll up the windows or something and then pulled the key back out. The IBUS app was mid-startup so it displayed a message on the cluster. I locked the car but the message stayed, so o overwrote it by turning the lights on and off. I wonder if somehow the IBUS app was keeping the system awake?

Thanks

That’s the thing- when I reset the IBUS app to factory the battery stopped draining. Issue is technically solved but trying to figure out what could have caused that. I like the coding features and want to use them but can’t have it cause a reliability issue. Wondering if anyone else has this app and had the same issue?

Are you running Car Launcher Pro also?

I only ask as the update about 6 weeks ago made a ton of my other apps buggy as hell...

Thanks for the suggestion- nope. Only running CarPlay (Autokit w/ USB box - wireless) and IBUS (Resler interface).

Maybe try the background settings as some apps have an auto start feature for other apps that you won't see and maybe it's kicking something on. Mine did the gps tracklog and radio and the only way I found it was to call up the background similar to an Apple product double click showing all apps in background or standby, then finding what launched them.

Thanks- I’ll look around. Thinking back I vaguely remember turning on a setting to open the ibus app on startup. That might have been the culprit.

Update: I had another battery drain issue a few weeks ago and a little before this the head unit died. Left channels had random static and audio only came from right channels. Drove without head unit for a while and battery continued to drain. I had left my dashcam plugged into port in passenger footwell for parking mode (with auto-shutdown after 24hrs to avoid draining battery too much) but just in case I unplugged that too. The car was going to sleep correctly based on the gear shift indicator. A few days ago I decided to just replace the battery. I thought it was a bit newer but it was actually 4 years old.

Maybe all this time it was a battery? This was an Exide and was installed in 2017 when they were still around. Or maybe this drain was the worn battery and the first one was the head unit. Still not sure, but I'll update once I have a chance to park the car for a bit and see if the new one drains.
