Hey,

I have both '00 e53 4.4i for 12 years, and '08 e70 3.0si I still prefer e53 for zipping around. E70 has more features but with 3rd row seats has so much rattling when empty,it drives me nuts. Leather seats are losing the dye if rubbed hard. N52 engine is a piece of junk. around 200,000 kms it started making lifter noise and no matter what I tried I can't get rid of it.

Diesel engines need timing chain replaced to stay at their top. It's on the transmission side. Tranny needs to get dropped.

E70's air ride is often noisy too, while e53's adjusts with barely any compressor noise.
List goes on.

Happy holidays and happy new year to all! Thanks for the comments and feedback.

diyanich thanks for sharing your experience. We had been looking at a forum member's expertly maintained and well optioned sport 2009 35d, but for a variety of reasons are just not sold on converting to a diesel right now.

There is a surprising amount of issues with all e70 models, which makes me reconsider owning one all together. The f15 looks to be sort out, though the cheapest f15 could be more than twice the cost of a used lci e70.

Yep, the wife and I are just now starting to look at F15 diesels and they are "good deals" at over $20000 and about 80,000 miles. We are looking at one now ($23.5k) that is pretty very well optioned but are undecided on pulling the trigger.

I'd prefer waiting until I replace the trans in the diesel and sell that to offset some of the cost. Decisions, decisions.
