Rear wiper issue
Hey guys,
I have recently noticed that my rear wiper seems to have an issue with getting my whole window. As you can see in the pics (please ignore the dirty window ), it for some reason always misses that top area. Upon closer inspection, it seems that when the wiper is vertical, it is sticking away from the window in that area. Even when I press it down, on the next run it's sticking away again. Any ideas what can be wrong here?

try silicone spray on the springs, I normally have to treat mine 3-4 times during the winter season

All of the above
![]() Take a wire brush to the spring and get it as clean as you can then work it back and forth back and forth with some silicone spray until it moves easily and then put a slight “bend” on the entire arm to keep good tension on the glass and you should be good to go - common issue. I agree common fault i normally take the wiper arm off when i get to work then soak it in some oil working it now and then, refit before i go home then good to go for a few more months.

Yep. I've bent the arm, too. The bigger reason I believe everyone is eluding to here is the fact that the pivot point where the wiper arm meets the mount through the glass corrodes and that corrosion limits the amount of tension the spring can apply.
I regularly soak mine with penetrating lubricant and cycle it through the 90 degrees of motion a number of times.

I added spring tension with a tiny cross bar to bend the spring towards thre glass. Worked for a while
Then I replaced with e70 model. Wipes great but has a different problem: shorter wiper doesn't clear the rain sensor! Now I need to find e70 style refill that is an inch longer so I can use the rain sensor again.

Ditto this...I popped off the e53 rear wiper and popped on an e70 rear wiper. I had no problem...like Fifty150hs...I didn't have a rear rain sensor.
![]() It's also gives a "smoother" look to the rear since the design of the wiper arm shrouds the spring mechanism. You can see how the e70 rear wiper clears the rear window in the pics below: ![]() ![]() Here's some random exterior pics of what the e70 rear wiper looks like on an e53...and yes, you just reverse it...the e70 rear wiper sweeps from right to left...the e53 sweeps from left to right: ![]()
