"shaft", "penetration", "grinding".

If I didn't see these words on a car forum I would have thought I'm reading a steamy romance novel.

LOL

All joking aside, this is a very good mod. I would love to do it.

Has anyone done it to their E53?

I have not had this problem, even with the added horsepower. I think I’ve read enough to understand why, but, why is this happening to some?

Combination of not enough engagement with the splines (~3/4" reported on early models) and no anti-corrosion (grease) put on the shaft. Then add that the AC evaporator drains right down onto the shaft and you have a recipe for some sort of failure after 100,000 miles.

I love BMW's, but like anything else, they have their design foibles/flaws/WTF's.

Ahhh... I never use the AC. So there is no moisture for the most part. I wonder if my indy addressed the grease issue though, when the drivetrain was restored?

Let’s say they did, and they didn’t find and damage to the splines. If they added proper lubricant, and everything bolted up right. Could this be a solution as well?
