There is nothing I have ever found that has determined what choice of size pipe or what location is best for a 4.6. I have a 4.6 with Dinan exhaust. Rather than an X or H pipe I elected to go with electric cutouts that can opened as much or little as I would like. I didn't want to risk creating a drone that could result from either choice of pipe or from the location of the install. My goal was maximum increase in performance rather than changing the sound of the Dinan exhaust. If your goal is changing the sound note that sound change from adding an X pipe is different than an H pipe.

Thoughts on putting an exhaust in place of the resonator and having pipe extended to the rear?

I think a certain sound is appropriate for certain vehicles. I removed my resonator on my 4.4. But this is beyond comfortable. Good luck...

Plus this was a start up on the 86 (low octane) Fuel, always louder due to slight increase of detonation. 91 or 94 Sounds significantly quieter |

Here's mine. Not an ideal setup (I'm sure it costs HP)... but it sounds good, which was all I was going for. I never close the cutouts and it is not too loud, no drone at any RPM using the Dinan mufflers.
![]() I think I am going to change out the stock resonator for an Xpipe and then have the cutouts as a dump like bcredliner. I HATE not having my exhaust come out of some sort of tip, but I would like a bit more volume at times so having the cutouts after the X-pipe as dumps would accomplish that. And maybe then I'd actually use the cutouts every now and then. Here's what it sounds like currently: X5 exhausts The grey 4.4 N62 is running Corsa mufflers. Dinan exhaust w/ cutouts I have long since fixed the exhaust leak shown in the video.
