4.4 has some umph...

First, I drive 40 mi to work one way everyday.
Today, coming home from work, this 350Z had the hardest time staying with me on the highway. When the 350Z finally got beside me, he yelled out his window, "that truck gots some balls." 25 min. down the road, I ran into my wife in our M3 and she could not abuse me like she use to when I had a Z71 Tahoe.
All in all, I did not realize that the X5 was this great of a performer on the highway.

That is a great story. Never get tired of hearing how well this almost-5000lb beast performs against other cars and trucks.

Everyone is always amazed at how fast the X5 is - regardless of the engine. Somehow, the nice engineering geeks in Munich got the engine sweet spots, the transmission ratios and the final drive ratio juuuuuuust right!

Right on about the 4.4. I stopped at a red light on a 3-lane off-ramp last night where the left lane turned left only, and the center and right lanes went straight. Instead of getting into the long line of cars in the center and right lanes to continue straight as I needed to do, I got over into the left lane, and pulled up to the white line to wait for the green. When I saw the yellow from the lights for traffic coming from the right, I took my foot off the brake and gunned it on green and I was 3 car lengths ahead by the time I got across the 4 lane road. You can't beat that from a two and a half ton vehicle!

Heh, the 4.4i is plenty fast, and BMW has made it so crisp that we can actually use that power. My friend still tries to make fun of me by saying that his 2002 Maxima is faster than my car, but I don't care. The performance tradeoff for the rest of the truck and its luxuries is well worth it.
