Engine repair service?? general opinion
I have an m62B46, and an m54B30 possibly could have an N62B44 and an m64B44 that I could repair and sell as a rebuild with a core fee ( that way, I could keep one in stock to cut down on the car downtime). Everything would be replaced with OE/OEM parts. The cost will vary on the engine, of course. I'm not sure of the price as I need to look up what it will cost me to buy a complete kit to rebuild.
Back story: I have been working on BMW since 2011, and now I have another primary job but still work on BMW on the side. I have extensive knowledge of M52, M54, N62, and M62. I have worked on other engines but have not done a complete disassembly on others. Other engines are n52,n54,m42, m60, s52, n63,s14, s62. Let me know your opinion. Thanks David G,

The Achilles heel with rebuilding an engine is the machining. Things might be different where you are but I don't know of any machine shop that can hold tolerances anywhere even close to the original BMW specs.

I have done various BMW engine trought my mechanic career. The experience part on them are the pistons and bearings. Depending on the engine. For example bearing for a n62 are between 32-34 dollars a cap. And the pistons rings are also expensive. On a m54 its a different story.

I can only comment on M54's. I have have rebuilt 3 of them: meaning new rings, crank bearings, etc.
As of now, I don't think you can can sell a properly rebuilt M54 for much of a premium over a used engine which is $500-$900, and to get $900+ I think you would have to guarantee them. Now I think what you propose is a good idea and what you would end up with would be a near bullet -proof M54 with no oil consumption. It should be worth $900, but wouldn't sell that high as there are still too many used engines around. Of course this all changes when/if M54's become scarce. |

right, I would have too look at what is the cost of parts and machine as it is more expensive than buying a used one and strait swapping them.
