Rearview mirror screen
Have mercy on my soul. I'm wanting to severely DIY my rearview mirror to mount my Uniden R7 inside the mirror and allow the display to shine through the mirror.
I ordered a replacement mirror for testing, but before I do this I wanted to know if anyone has DIY'd the mirror to put a display in it, or screwed with the mirror at all in some fashion. I really want to know if the dimmable mirrors have a black backing that can be removed or how it works so that I can (potentially) have a friend cut some two-way glass to match and replace it. The second part of this project is to cut into the plastic housing and make a mount for detector. Thank you for entertaining my curiosity EDIT: I've done more research. I learned how the autodim function works on the mirror: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI3cR9KhrdY So what I need to do is see if I can either: A) remove any film on the back of the mirror, if it actually exists. seems unlikely that will work. B) cut the mirror to reveal the film and replace a chunk of the mirror with a two-way mirror. Or if it looks doable, completely replace the mirror with a two-way mirror. I watched how you cut glass and more specifically, how to cut curves into glass, so I'm interested in how this will turn out. EDIT 2: And I've found a deconstruction of the Uniden R7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erAd2QZ_GYo Also here: https://www.rdforum.org/threads/87181/ The forum post is great because it shows the buttons are only attached via a connector with exposed wires. This makes me think I'll be able to lengthen the cables for relocation. Last edited by miloh; 02-28-2021 at 12:45 AM. |
