Dinan D900-45X kit (Engine software)

Hi all, has anyone tried this device?
https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...s/D900-45X-KIT

I explain why I'm looking at removing my current custom tune and installing this, in post 9

Sorry, double post in the same forum, ADMIN, please erase.

I have Dinan Stage 1 DME and EGS software loaded in my E46 for 18 years now. I had the dealer do the flash but loved every bit of the money I spent.

The speed limiter delete was worth the money alone. You will need to run premium fuel to get the best performance though, it adds a little more aggressive ignition timing map.

Aside from the teenagers who just recently bought their first beemer I thought we all ran premium anyway.

Premium is a thing of the past for me.

I have been straight regular fuel since 2008 when the economy crashed. I didn't have the extra $.50/gallon so I ran regular and let the knock sensors do their work and adjust the timing map compensations. I never went back to premium but I never really drive aggressively.

Both cars have been no problem now for 13 years, even the Dinan E46 tune.

If my memory serves, regular fuel has less toluene, xylene, etc. So there should be less soot, essentially burning cleaner.

Since we want maximum horsepower and don't want to burn a valve, you bet we do.

As I mentioned, both my M54 engines have been running strictly regular fuel for 13 years now. My guess is if a valve would burn because of my choice of fuel, it would have burnt by now. About 150,000 miles on the X5 and 175,000 miles on the E46 running regular fuel.

Not going to say it is the best fuel to run, but paranoia about burnt valves running regular unleaded has been debunked to say the least.

I'm glad it hasn't bit you. Others have not been so lucky.

I don't have specific experience for comparison on the facelift E53 but in general the Stage 1 tunes of any variety don't give you more power but an overall more enjoyable driving experience. Such has been with the APR software I've experience on VAGs and various packages on the JDM vehicles I've run. As for Dinan, they make some all around excellent stuff, for $200 you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
