I have had Dinan software since my 2002 4.6 turned 2,500 miles. Now at 122,000 or so. At that time it was required that an authorized Dinan shop had to install all Dinan products. The software was designed to match up with other Dinan mods. I have never had any problem with the software or any of the other Dinan mods installed. Dinan has changed hands but I have not heard anything bad about them since the buyout. On the other hand, it might be better to get a custom tune that may offer better performance results.

I am not really expecting gains, but my concern is I had my X5 custom tuned in 2012 by a local tuner shop. Never had any Dinan goodies, and even tho I have the Dinan enclosed CAI and a larger bore throttle body now, I'm still not chasing the Dinan badge, BUT here is my reasoning for this question... For MANY MANY years now (possibly since 2012, see the coincidence...) I have had an issue at when I'm slowly accellerating up OR just cruising at the 35-45 km/hr (school zone speeds, and there are a lot of school zones where I live)my x5 seems to buck, but only apparent to the driver. This is the only speed range and no I can't avoid it. It seems as tho the fuel is being fed, then stops, then flows, then stops and I can feel this strike/slip or surging effect in the pedal. No the RPMs and speedo do not fluctuate at all. I have since done a few tranny flushes and even bought a whole new valve body with apparently upgraded solenoids for all gears. that seemed to help for a few days, but then the same problem came back (I did however seem to get rid of the long lag time in the shift between D/N and R). even my awesome indy Bimmer mechanics can't figure out whats going on. SO I was thinking, since I've done everything short of another transmission (and a tranny shop has told me they do not think its a tranny issue, but more of an engine fuel delivery problem) I was gonna revert my DME back to stock flash and see how it drives. IF the problem is cured, then fantastic. BUT Then I'd like to go with another tune and perhaps bypass the local tuners, whom I'm not even sure know what they're doing, and going with a Dinan Tune, BUT I was surprised to see you could just buy the module yourself, as I was under the impression it HAD to be done by a Dinan shop... SO was this a counterfit product, or perhaps just a half-assed tune? So I'm just looking to see if anyone here has bought this package and performed it themselves? Thanks all

Coming from the Dinan website its definitely not counterfeit. And it will be the same tune they produced and released years ago, it would actually cost them more money to develop a new tune, even if it was half-assed. The reason it's cheap is because they realize that their target market drives F series vehicles now and the m62tu tunes are collecting dust on the shelf. So they are pricing the m62 tunes so that the high schoolers who are inheriting dad's well taken care of X5 or 540 can afford them. Speaking of which I should look at getting it for my e39 540

It's not counterfeit. The new management allows self installed Dinan products. There is no way of knowing if the Dinan tune is the same as before or not. IMO it is a different tune as all Dinan tunes went with other Dinan products to get the gains. There was no tune back then that there was only a 6HP and 6TQ. All tunes increased performance more.
Since air fuel mix, even with a tune, is still managed by the BMW components I suspect the tune has nothing to do with your problem. I wouldn't buy any parts until you verify the core problem via troubleshooting. I would monitor air/fuel mixture. You could also do some Dyno runs that should find the cause.

I've tried multiple troubleshooting methods sadly, as have my mechanics.
a Dyno around here costs hundreds and therefore it would be cheaper just to see if the Dinan software could make a difference. I was thinking a different fuel map may be what is needed... hence why I'm debating flashing the ECU/DME back to stock first...

so, I see this has bery much sidetracked from the original question...
So none of you have used this Dinan Kit? I wonder if its just smarter to get a local one, as one local tuner was advertising a 4% gain in both TQ and HP... but most importantly its to get this stuttering at 35-45 km/hr figured out first.

https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/...pdate.1081716/ As far as anyone having used this specific Dinan kit, it seems to be a brand new offering and I doubt any of us have. I do have the Dinan tunes in my gearbox and DME and have been happy with the results. Hell, for $200, what do you have to lose, just make sure to flash the latest factory stock DME assembly number before moving to the Dinan.

Problem is, my rpm gauge doesnt show a stutter on the gauge... only in the gas pedal is it felt, like there is power then not, then power then not... to a passenger, they'd never notice.
