Help! Mechanic didnít reconnect rear right lower shock mount

Hi guys,

I had some read end work done (new rear wheel bearings and axles on both sides) by a well-respected shop in Chicago while I was there for work for a few weeks. I drove my car back to New York and noticed some squirrelly rear end behavior. I just crawled under and found that my right rear shock is not connected to the subframe. Itís just hanging loose. The mechanic must have forgotten to reconnect it or the hardware fell out. Obviously I need to get in touch with them but Iím wondering what if any damage this couldíve caused to my other rear suspension parts. Would this damage the spring? The control arms? Or can I just reconnect the shock and drive happily on?

Rear Shock? You don't have airbags? Yes let us know which well-respected shop in Chicago did the work.

I'm going to get in touch with them today and figure out the solution before I post the name, but I will follow up here. I don't have airbags.

Any thoughts on whether driving with the lower shock mount disconnected could cause damage to the rest of my rear suspension?

It's disconnected where the three bolts attach to the body or where it attaches to the swing arm?

Itís disconnected at the bottom under the car where the one long bolt goes through the shock and the body of the car.

If it was left disconnected then just putting it back together should be no problem.

+1

Certainly explains squirrely handling. You'll need the bolt and nut your shop probably still has. How a decent mechanic missed reattaching the shock is beyond me. It's a no brainer when working on the rear suspension.

Great. I ordered the nut and bolt from the dealer and the mechanic was very apologetic and credited me $100. Thanks for the help on here!

That's good

Hopefully however was responsible for that blunder will get yelled at and ridiculed for some time to come.

"You guys need anything from the coffee shop"

"Yeah I'll take a couple bolts for a shock"

- Pointing an laughter ensues
