Bad idler bearing? You have a stethoscope? They are invaluable for pinpointing noises like these.

Or a dowel rod (sometimes better) as they transmit the noise from contact point without adding sounds from farther away.

It’s a very strange sound because it doesn’t sound periodic so therefore it does not sound like it’s coming from the engine directly. But it sounds like to me is water dripping on something hot and turning to steam. Leak in your windshield reservoir dripping on exhaust possibly?
You can use an app like FFT to determine the source of the sound by moving your phone around and observing the waveform including amplitude and frequency Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
