I'm not sure what you mean by push rods? are these the links attached to the level sensor arm? If so, I didn't replace those and I don't remember them being frozen or not moving smoothly.

Yup the links. The balls on the end will rust and lock up causing chaos. You can't tell when they are attached but if you replaced the actual sensor than you'd have had a chance to verify the ball joints were smooth.
