DME swap before cloning
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know for certain if I swap the DME in my E53 (without cloning or EWS synch), will I be able to set the key to pos 2 and use INPA to activate the Aux fan? I do NOT want to immobilize the vehicle. Please let me know if this is possible and if there are any pitfalls to avoid (besides trying to crank the car). I'm pretty certain my DME needs to be repaired but would be awesome to be able to verify the new Aux Fan works as well before I send the DME out for repair. The PWM signal from my stock DME appears to have an issue activating the fan and as a result it doesn't see the electrical return...and sets a Fan Activation error code in the DME. My voltage at the hot from fuse 61 is good, the ground is good, the voltage on the control wire does indeed step down but the wave form of the PWM signal doesn't look like a correct square wave. That's why I'm sending out the DME for repair and also to be cloned to the new DME I bought so I have a backup unit as well...or a replacement if the original cannot be correctly repaired. Much thanks in advance. -Mike in Palm Springs
