BMW E53 D1 - M57 Diesel 2003 - Oil Pressure
Good Afternoon,
I am struggling to confirm what the manufacturers oil pressure is at idle so I can resolve a potential issue. I have search high and low but no number. Regards, Jangle |

What kind of potential issue?
Oil pressure at idle speed with engine at operating temperature min 0,5 bar. Regulated pressure 4,2 +/-0,5 bar.

Thank you Clavurion.
As my wife says I treat my X5 better in terms of gifts than I do her. So my most recent upgrade was to have the timing chain replaced including all chains seals and bolts, given the miles 201 thousand. I also sent off to have the original turbo rebuilt and everything was fine. Then I received Fuel Inject issue some weeks later no issue just a failing injector, replaced and sorted. Then the new Turbo snapped the the internal rod and delivered oil into air intake thankfully no damage accept paying for new turbo as they advised issue with contaminants in oil and hours cleaning the system. Then the Oil pressure light started to flicker replaced the sensor after doing a manual check for pressure and saw 10Psi at idle but it always disappears when driven. My OCD starts to take over and I was concerned for mechanical damage as everything was fine before the timing chain and I was concerned if the oil cog had come loose or pump was failing. I always replace the PCV and do oil changes every 5k. Someone mentioned the fuel pump can leak diesel into sump which would explain everything but when I did the second oil change post turbo I checked for contaminants and saw nothing. When revered to 3k seeing 40psi? Just wanted to make sure the pressure at idle is correct. Regards, Stuart |

Oil Pressure sender unit not working properly even though you replaced it?
New parts seem to be failing right out of the box more frequently these days. Oil level is correct?

Ahelm,
Yeah new sender, I even bought a new oil filter housing and cooler just to be sure. Oil level is good. I am monitoring it in case it increases as in diesel is entering the system. I struggled to confirm what the oil pressure in PSI would be at idle then at load. |

Not very common but actually I suffered this high pressure pump axle seal failure. When it failed it started to run on its own oil like when turbo has catastrophic failure. Luckily I managed to stall it. When draining oil 13 litres came out, so oil + 6 litres of diesel in sump. Renewed the HP pump and changed oil. Runs like nothing ever happened now about 50 thousand km after. For M57 it was just a proper flush.
