"Xoutpost server transfer and maintenance is occurring.... There are ten slots in the EWS. From the factory, 3 are used. When you order a new Genuine key, they use slot 4, then slot 5 and so on. When you program an ebay key, you can choose whatever slot you want. It's best to program it in slot 10, and work your way backwards (future owners, etc). you can also disable or deactivate old keys. With the custom keys you are really just programming a chip that sits inside the case. I have yet to be able to make the convenience features work on one of the custom keys.

Okay. I just ordered my "genuine" diamond key from the store. $183 all included...I really hope it's not the cheap ebay type key, but an actual sealed key.
Andrew, did you get a diamond key too, or just the valet?

If you ordered from the link I provided in post #2, you will get the Genuine BMW key.

I bought both. I want a key I can hide under the car somewhere for in case of emergency AND remote functions. They are definitely legit BMW keys. So weird though. Not used to the key having texture (or unlocking the door from a distance for that matter). If you email them with your VIN (last seven) they will write back with every key option available for your car.

Do they tell you what key number they assigned the replacement one?

I don't know how they assign key number or if the car does it on first use.
Like I mentioned the first attempt on the valet key it didn't start and I think the CAS was still figuring out what to do with the key. I didn't have my scanner hooked up to read what key slots were used by the new .

FYI, I just got an email from Sean this early A.M. stating he'll go ahead an order the key.

Correct on key # and seat position but it doesn't matter which key #.
