Great mod, thanks for posting. Are the pipes any bigger on yours thank the stock ones? Mine are 10mm bigger than stock, but the mufflers are exactly the same as far as Ican tell, just bigger tips.
All 4.4i & 3.0i piping seems to be the same size, makes sense that both mufflers fit either center resonator. I know 4.8iS have larger diameter pipes with different angle flanges.

Not sure if I want to chop up the exhaust just to make it work. Im polishing them currently, so I’ve got more time to decide whether or not to do so.

If it's going on a 3.0i I would stick with 4.4i mufflers since they are direct fit no modification. Unless you really love the oval tip look. Personally I like the quad pipes look much more.

I agree, the quad pipes look great. I would have done the same if I could find any locally. I was lucky to land these 4.6 mufflers for only $100 locally, already pulled.

It seems like there are a multitude of 4.4i cars being parted out, but all of the scrappers think their parts are made of gold or something. Every time I call about parts, they end up quoting me insanely high prices.

That's a good deal. I got ripped on mine, didn't wait long enough on a wanted ad so I just pulled the trigger on a wrecker pair for $400cdn. Initially they wanted $500cdn. But I figured it's cheaper than getting ticketed and/or VI'd which would be even worse.

Yeah I see that up here too, vehicles aren't worth anything given up to timing chain guides, trans failures, n62 valve guide seals etc. but they think the parts are gold.

Do you mean that the old ones were rusted out? Do you guys have road salt in BC?

No I mean because of the noise level. I had previously already deleted rear mufflers.
And no bmw exhausts don't seem to rust out here, we don't get much salt/brine for winters here though.

Resurrecting a thread here with an exhaust question. I’ve read lots of post here and over at another site with some helpful E39 gents, but exhaust and muffler mods seem to have as many opinions as there are upgrades.

I’m thinking of a simple rear muffler(s) delete and adding glasspacks and 3.5” dual tips. I’m looking for better sound, but not obnoxious for my equal parts style and substance amateur build. So far I can’t find any feedback on glasspacks on the M62.

I appreciate the feedback on the single and dual walled tips that several have post3d about. The 3.5” look super nice on our cars.
