$40 seems very reasonable. Nice tip with the dish detergent

Nice I was wondering about this lately, mine is falling apart. Silicone lubricant dry spray would probably work very well as well for install.

I did this four months ago and did it so poorly, without dawn, it flew off on the highway a week ago. I’ll get another one and try your method!

I also have a problem with this...Its better after I pinched the channel on the seal to hold the glass a little better. I also think my windshield had been replaced previously.. There is a big glob of sealant at the middle top edge that prevents the seal from fully seating.

I don't think the gasket will hold if the glass and channel are dirty or have globs of sealant on the glass. IMHO

This windshield rubber at the top that you speak of, does that fill the gap between the glass and the actual roofline of the boddywork?
I noticed today that there was a lot of glue and a big channel at the top of my windscreen, it just looks unfinished. I have no idea about what this is, if it goes all around or only the top, but I would like to know and learn. Maybe this is causing my horrible air leak sound by turbulence in the channel? |

Yes it fills the gap. Part #51317182004 It's a single piece the fits between glass and body and extends across the top of the windshield, not down the sides. It does crumble and deteriorate over time. I've seen several X5 with it missing altogether. |

Nice tip with the soapy water. I did mine a few months ago and broke the windshield trying to pry the broken pieces of the old one out. I'm not sure if someone glued the old one in there perhaps, but it was a costly mistake. I also can't get a few inches of one side to fit nicely down in the channel, so I'll try the soapy water trick.
