Have you tried calling tech and asking them whats what? If you can purchase from FCP Euro they state if a part is OE or OEM or some other MFG. when you pull up the part.

I was just about to order a rear wheel bearing and was planning on going with the FAG brand but now I'm rethinking that.

If you're getting "fake" bearings from rockauto I would contact them with my concerns.

Timken used to be a good brand, anyone have recent experiences with them?

How about Centric bearings?

Timken bearings for BMWs are only good when they are repackaged FAG. (This was nice in an emergency back when Autozone used to stock them. Had to do a rear bearing trackside one time, and was able to find a FAG in a Timken box at an Autozone by the track.)

Centric bearings are crap.

If you're in the USA, just buy from FCPEuro. Canadians have big problems with border transit costs that don't apply to us. And as a bonus, if it ever fails, FCP will warrant it.

Edit: FAG and SKF are the brands to look at. I believe that BMW is selling SKF currently for the rear. BMW uses FAG and SKF largely interchangeably - to the point where I've received one BMW box with FAG, and one with SKF in the past.

location location location

For some reason seems like Rockauto is the ONLY place that has been able to figure out shipping across the border or they're the only ones that care about Canadian customers, so they get my business.

Nothing more infuriating to me than getting a $50 shipping quote for a $30 part

Well, if Rockauto is selling crap FAG bearings, it looks like they carry SKF.

Edit: FWIW, here's one that I bought from FCP. IIRC, it was in the $50 range. Note 2021 production.

Well. I'd upload a picture of the bearing, but I can't get it small enough for the forum to accept. Here's the box anyway.
If you are on a PC and have windows you should have Paint. You can resize photos very easily using this software.

I have several much more advanced photo editing applications. The issue is not resizing to pixel dimension. The issue is resizing to a target file size. I'm only going to try so many times to get into a specific maximum size. Since file size is arbitrary depending on how a JPEG compresses, it's a pain. Most forums are a lot less restrictive.

As I pointed out earlier, Rockauto also sells a real FAG ('I think', and for what that is worth) in a BCA box, the box actualy says "made in Germany" but the FAG bearing says made in Slovenia or Slovakia. I think I'm going to stick to SKF from now on though, maybe not quite as good as FAG was back in the day but seems to be still a top notch bearing and less of a crap shoot as to what you're getting.

Interesting. I've never had an issue getting photos sized so they'd be accepted.

It's all a crapshoot. I bought an SKF bearing hub through BMW that literally was dimensioned wrong.
