Key in ignition CHIME

Isn't there supposed to be a chime when the key is left in the ignition??

Sometimes I hear one chime, this morning it chimed 3x then stopped. I've also had a persistent key on, lights on, no crank, no start condition. It always starts on 2nd or 3rd try.

I'm thinking the ignition switch is toast, but ran out of cannon balls for the parts cannon.

When the door opens, it does chime. Plus, display "key in ignition".
Every now and then mine doesn't start on the first time. I have to turn the key all they way off and back to crank. I think I don't hold it long enough to start sometimes. Or it's a sign of a pending problem. They electric key cylinder portion on mine has been replaced. I replaced it in effort to find the "no sleep" problem.

Man, you describe my issues perfectly. So you didn't replace the ignition switch? This is the electrical part. Costs between $50-$100.

I would guess that the erratic chime and start have something to do with the EWS antenna not seeing the key properly. And I'm guessing you only have the 1 key ?? Has someone tried to install a remote start ?

I have 2 keys. One is brand new. Same problem. No evidence of remote starting ever installed on vehicle.

Remote start installers (hacks) will mess with the EWS ring. It sounds to me that the EWS might not being seeing the key all the time?? I wonder if you can see that with a scanner?
