Question HVAC Noise

This is one of those things that is mildly irritating but not enough to warrant immediate action! But I think 2 years is long enough!

My HVAC has had this irritating whining-thud sound since I bought the car. It's almost like a servo is trying to move something but fails. Then tries again, and again, and again, forever.

https://youtu.be/iW0OH-zTPLM

I tried to capture a video of the sound. I enhanced the audio a lot as it's quite faint. You can really hear it after 14 seconds.

It took me a long time to narrow the sound down to the temperature control! If I lower the temperature it goes away. Likewise if I raise the temperature it goes away. But fuck me if i want the temperature comfortable!.... Car: "enjoy the song of my people".

All other HVAC controls work fine. Air directs perfectly etc.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Is the noise coming from the IHKA unit itself? If so, try cleaning out the vented areas on both sides of the unit. I used some of those GUM floss brushes with some compressed air in a can as mine was filthy. There is a fan behind one of the vents (I think onvthe right side) that can get dirty and become louder than normal.

The buildup on the fan can be amazing.

Mine looked like it chewed up a chinchilla

I don't think the noise is coming from that panel, rather somewhere behind it.

If I put my leg on the side of the transmission tunnel plastic I can feel the light thud of something moving!

I've cleaned out the fan before. Previous owner didn't have a dog thank god!
