DIS V57 VM and Diaghead emulator

In hopes of diagnosing a series of troublesome codes I have gone the route of downloading A bundled DIS V57 VM package and buying a K+Dcan cable. After making through the most of installation I have come to a block in my path. The Diaghead emulator doesnt seem to wanna work. The step I am stuck at is as follows:

Run IFHSrv32.exe
Open Diaghead emulator and click run (ERROR)
Open VM workstation and start DIS V57 VM

So, running IFHSrv32.exe works as expected however the Diaghead emulator doesnt work went I try to run it. I get an empty Error message. The program recognizes the Computer name but soon after unexpectedly stops and prompts me with the empty Error message window.

Does anyone have any experience with the DIS V57 VM setup and using the BMW Diaghead emulator? I would appreciate any and all the help you can provide.

I know this is a long time ago, but were you ever able to get diaghead to work? I'm stuck at the same issue. it worked once and I was able to access DIS v57, but after shutting it down I was unable to start diaghead again.

Very frustrating.

Every version of the software suite is different, but you might try going into VM connected devices and make sure the serial port for the diag head is connected, if it is try disconnect and re-connect.

Hey there, thanks for the response. Can you explain how to do that?

The problem I seem to be having is that the program won’t even open. It did once, and I was able to turn up the range to 100% and choose the proper head, but after that it would not open again. The error pops up right away and closes it. Before I have even installed VMware or DIS or anything else.

Hover/click on "VM" on the VM top menu bar, then on "connected devices" etc. That's by memory from a while back but should be close. The suppliers of the software suite are usually pretty good with support so you might try that as well.

Usually everything (DIS for sure) runs in the virtual machine so there is no way you can connect the head to DIS unless everything is running. I'm not familiar at all with the turning up the range thing but that would suggest a wireless connection which is another can of worms.

I’ll have a look at VM ware again. It’s not wireless, just the first step in setting up diaghead according to the steps.

As is often the case with folks, I have followed the instruction to a T and even had it working before shutting DIS down to open it again in full screen lol.

I have found easydis v44 again, so I might try installing that one again on another old HP and see if I can get that bad boy to work. The usb interface works great with INPA and as I said everything worked once, just that darn diaghead not opening anymore.

Bet it’s something super small… Thank you for your help so far.

I found EasyDIS v44 much simpler - no diag head to worry about. But you have to initialise (via the test mode) the interface every time you use it.

Note that with EasyDIS the bar indicators for the emulator head are NOT lit - this is normal.
