Strange NAV headunit question

Got my hands on another 4.6is parts car and was able to get some good parts from it. One thing I grabbed was another NAV headunit since mine has some of the circular spots. I plugged it in, and the screen is nice but it’s very dim!

I went into settings to adjust the brightness — but there is no brightness setting?? This is the only head unit I’ve seen missing a brightness option.

Any ideas? This screen is much nicer than the one in my car so I’d like to make it work if possible!

Search for the threads on the Nav screen replacement - which show how to open up the nav head unit and replace/adjust the screen. They may be in this forum or in the electronics - I can’t recall.

EDIT: Start here: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...placement.html

In my experience the following are possible:

1) No connection to the instrument dimmer;
2) Backlight for the head unit is starting to die
a. If the screen starts dim and brightens after a little while, you may be able to live with it, as I do on the E46
b. The backlight is failing

Good thread here. My screen was p/n LQ065T9BR51U

Depending on the model the screen was made for you could have a replacement screen with the wrong viewing angle. I tried replacing the screen in my 2006 with a screen the vendor claimed worked with the e53. It didn't and the viewing angle cannot be adjusted.
