If either, I suggest you swab each cylinder one morning after a full-temp run the day before.
This happened to me after doing a head gasket on my E53...5k miles and a year later, I found coolant in a cylinder, leading to head gasket #2..

Good tip. No running problems noted at all. As an alternative to the next-day test you suggest (but same effect), when I did HG #1, I actually used my Motive Brake Pressure bleeder to pressurize the cooling system to about 20 psi, I think, and let it sit like that for an hour before finding coolant in the cylinders.
I wish I had not sold my timing kit on Craigslist. Will need to buy a new one on eBay if I do end up doing a second HG.
