I recently replaced filter on my e39 wiith a brand new Hengst from FCP euro.
Turns out it was putting out fuel pressure at 60 psi ( should be 50 psi) which was causing a rich running condition.

Yup, it was a Hengst from FCP. I put it on the car and a week later troubles started, wouldn't rev over 1500. Replacing the fuel pump only fixed the problem halfway, revs maxed at 3000. So, I over-nighted another filter (Mahle) and installed it, been fine since. Called FCP and they refunded the cost of the Hengst.

two faulty regulators on brand new Hengst fuel filters is at least one too many..
I think we have a problem with Hengst filters. At least those that include regulators....

Thanks for sharing.

I'm grateful that my 2002 has the older, non-regulator fuel filter. Although half the time I end up receiving the wrong filter from suppliers when it is time to change. A little less complexity on this system is a good thing, I think.

I have a fuel pump ready to go in and was planning on replacing my 10 year old pump, and keeping that one in a bag, in the car as an emergency spare. Just haven't had time to research all the great lessons learned from guys on this site regarding the fuel system, pumps, seals, etc.

Before the Hengst filter there was also a Mahle filter on the car that I installed about 10 years earlier. So, the Mahle items seem to work fine. Hengst should normally be reliable but it seems FCP got a bad batch.....

Proves the point that new ≠ fixed and you have to trust diagnostic signals when they circle back to the part you just replaced. It happens plenty.
