Question Broken brake pad wear sensor electrical connector

Sooooooo, I was changing my from brakes on the '04 4.4i. And as I was pulling out the brake sensor from the connector, it basically fell of in my hand. I guess it was brittle from heat over time. So I can't pull out the top part from bottom without pulling out the wires because its stuck. Tried using a needle nose it just keep breaking the plastic.

Does anyone know if the top connector is sold separately ? Then I would just cut the wires and splice the new one on.

I just changed that part and it was an M Fer. The problem is the seal loses the grease and the rubber mates with the plastic. You can use some WD-40 In the groove then raw power to pull apart. Use the likes of a knife edge to pry right where the arrow is. There is a little retention clip that is 1% of the force you can basically ignore that. I paid like $16 for my entire brake sensor you won't find just the connector at least I've never heard of such a thing. REAL OEM might actually have a part number as it typically goes down to the last washer and screw. If you didn't pull the wires out of the top you should be able to separate the two parts of that connector. Look at the new and see what gets tried looking replaced you can cut off the tabs that get in the way

I believe you will get a new bottom connector with a new sensor, I would just break the old bottom connector. I believe like the wheel sensor you can just buy back the plastic connector that just fell a part and insert the old wire with the lead into the new connector. ECS tuning is where I brought the plastic connector. On the wheel sensor you need to get the leads in base on the color of the wire. Don't know if it is the same for the brake pad sensor.

My sentiments as well. Did you get the new connector and have a working brake indicator again? Put some anti seize in there ( do Electric grease like used for light bulbs it's what I use).

Sorry for jumping in;
How would you actually pull out the wear sensor plastic housing that is somehow attached to the body. I have to pull that housing out in order to get behind the wheel housing cover.
I'm guessing it is attached by 2 rubber grommets. But I want to make sure before I put force behind the pry bar. Thanks

Send a photo. I'm confused. The brake sensor should go to a connector inside a little box in the wheel well. What car? On some cars I've worked on the rear sensor connector box is behind the fender liner.

2004 X5, 3.0i -

That "little box" is exactly what needs to be taken out in order for the wheel cover to come off. The box is attached to the body/frame so it has to come off before I can remove the wheel cover.
Attached is the photo of the box on front left wheel well.
The whole purpose is to remove the brake line from the driver side wheel to the ABS pump.

Broken brake pad wear sensor electrical connector

Quote:
mounting box (4X BMW 61138372280). Located the new mounting box into the body and pushed the pins through the mounting grommet clips on the box to firmly secure the box to the body.
Looks like they use a built in expanding rivet.

From the picture it looks like the pin might be missing from the bottom rivet. Pull out the pins and pull the box off.

Search the part number to find pictures that show some details to help locate the two pins. (there is a chance only one of the posts is a rivet the other may just be a locator pin. )

PS. That was the hardest part to find on real OEM that one looked up in a year. Wasn't in any logical place just in random ungrouped.
