Crank but no start

Hi there!! (2001 X5 E53 4.4i, M62 TU engine, ZF 5hp24)

I have a little issue here......I had the engine out and its back in (did the timing chain guides) and I have a crank but no start condition. INPA told me its the Crankshaft position sensor (CPS).It said that the signal is currently and initially missing. I checked the sensor. Resistance ok and it puts out between 0.2 to 0.6 volts so it seems to be ok. What troubles me a bit is that I tested also the connector (of the cable that goes down from the rectangular wiring box on top of the fuel rail) down at the bell housing and both terminals of that snap connector have continuity. So with one end of my Multimeter I thouched the one terminal or the snap connector and with the other the bell housing for ground. both terminal in the snap connector show continuity. I thought they are plus and ground and the plus terminal should not show continuity when connected to the bell housing?????? Anybody know??
I also did a big f........ up....while I was trying to loosen the Jesus bolt, I wedged a shifter/spanner in the flex plate to hold the crankshaft. Bend the tooth of it slightly. Bend it back but it seems they are too far away now to give a signal to the CPS but before I take out the engine again to put a new flex plate in, I want to make sure that everything else is ok

So today I mounted the CPS back into the bell housing connected the multimeter to the exposed terminals of the CPS (CPS not connected to the snap connector of the wiring) set the multimeter to 200 Volts and I got a reading when I cranked the engine so it puts out a low AC Voltage but that voltage apparently never reaches the DME. Flex plate seems to be ok though.

Any ideas?
. Cheers heaps
